Microtonal music is not a genre but a system of intonation and instrument tuning. The most common definition of microtonal music includes all music that is not based on the equally tempered division of the octave into 12 tones. According to this definition, all music up until a century and a half ago was microtonal. Additionally, all ethnic music is microtonal if performed on original instruments. Nowadays, with the advent of electronic music and the use of computers, many possibilities that musicians previously didn’t have are now available, and an increasing number of professionals and amateurs are exploring them. The course "Microtonal Music" is based on the book "Five Limit Intervals - Theory & Praxis" and the CD album "Just Music", with the main focus on Just intonation harmony.
About the book: “Five Limit Intervals - Theory & Praxis”:
" Šćekić’s work, observed objectively from a neutral platform helps us to unlock certain doorways, and move freely into broader landscapes.”
Pat Martino; guitarist, composer, and lecturer
About the CD album “Just Music”:
"Šćekić masterfully crafts pieces that on the surface portray often lyrical, placid, and harmonic gestures, yet are richly calculated and complex in their construction.."
PARMA Recordings; record label, NH, United States
His music is beautifully resonant and strangely perplexing. This album is... simply beautiful. One of the most impressive piano albums we’ve ever heard. Outstanding work – we highly recommend it!"
